CONTROVERSIAL COMEDIAN, THE LEGENDARY PAUL MOONEY,
TEAMS UP WITH DALLAS COMPANY FOR TV SPECIAL
Paul Mooney partners with AMS Pictures on Cable & DVD Special
DALLAS, TX – AMS Pictures is partnering with the icon of controversy, comedian Paul Mooney, one of the funniest and most influential men in the history of American comedy, in his latest television special and DVD release. The former writer for legendary comedians Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx, Mooney has not appeared in his own special for more than three years, and he has a lot to say!
Mooney is a legendary comic genius who elicits controversy with hard-hitting humor. His personal brand of truth speaks to being Black in America and the heart of the struggle. The entire special will be shot in Texas, the home of many former presidents. The famed creator of characters “Negrodamus” from Chappelle’s Show and “Homey D. Clown” from In Living Color, Mooney is looking forward to working in Dallas for this next special. It will include his standup routine and several skits that highlight local legends and lore.
Mooney will visit Dealey Plaza to meet people who have thoughts on the events in 1963, as well receive cowboy lessons at Beaumont Ranch, an 800 acre working ranch southwest of Dallas. Another theme that will figure prominently in Mooney’s special is political leaders and ethnicity. Viewers will not want to miss what Mooney has to say about our first black president!
Mooney’s comedy routine will be taped before a live audience at The Lodge, the club that voters from both The Dallas Observer and Maxim Magazine determined to be the #1 gentlemen’s club in the country. “The Lodge has the prettiest women, and now we’ll get the funniest comedian. It’s a killer combination,” says owner Dawn Rizos, who was given the top honor of Industry Innovator of the Year at the 2006 Gentlemen’s Club Owners Expo in Las Vegas. Local band AwkQuarius, formerly known as PPT, will also be present to warm up the audience.
The special is produced by Paul Mooney, Helene Shaw, Mary Pelloni, and AMS Pictures’ own Andy Streitfeld. “Paul is an enormous talent who truly belongs in a state like Texas,” says Streitfeld. “I look forward to bringing Paul’s humor and underlying truths to the screen. I laugh out loud every time I see him.” Viewers should look for this special to appear on cable television and the DVD in stores later in 2009.
